Our Work
Eating Stone is an orphanage, a home for children in need. We serve one purpose: to ensure that each child can feel safe and have a fulfilling future.
Care
Substituting the family
Every child at Eating Stone arrives with a history, and many arrive with more than a child should have to carry. Some lost parents to illness, some to violence, some were left with grandparents who could no longer cope. Caring for them means more than a roof and a meal. It means steadiness: adults who are stable caregivers, a daily rhythm that gives security, and the room to simply be a child again. In our rented compound, Cyprian, Agnes, Evans, Maureen and Ronny live together with the children as one family.
Education
Education opens the doors for the future.
No child should be left behind. Every child should have the chance to develop their personality, learn social skills to become a part of the community and to receive training that enables them to earn a living.
- 76 of our children go to Wisdom Academy, our own primary school.
- Seven children attend Secondary school.
- Two young adults go to university.
Housing and Food
Meeting basic needs
A place to sleep and three meals a day for 85 children is a large part of what we do, and the foundation for everything else. When food prices rise, the pressure is immediate and it can endanger everything else: school fees, rent, medical care etc.
Medical Care
Making sure the children are healthy
At the moment we are facing severe financial limitations. Even though basics clinics are nearby, we often cannot afford the medications, mosquito nets or routine diagnostic tests, e.g. Malaria.
Wisdom Academy

Class teachers of Wisdom Academy in 2026
Wisdom Academy is a primary school under Eating Stone Organisation.
In Kenya, cost of Education is very high so we thought it wise to start our own school where the children would be able to get education at no cost. With the help of well wishers we gathered school requirements and learning materials and looked for volunteer teachers. The school was registered by the Kenyan government in 2015 and a certificate given. […view certificate]
Wisdom Academy goes from Playgroup to Class 9, with six to fifteen pupils per class. It has done marvellous. Other kids from the neighbourhood have joined and brought a sense of social integration in the local community. Now our children no longer feel neglected, segregated or disadvantaged.
Christian Faith
It is in giving that we receive (St. Francis of Assisi)
Eating Stone was founded on Christian conviction, and faith remains part of daily life here. The Christian values love, faith, hope, gratitude, forgiveness and compassion are fundamental for the Organisation’s daily culture, for character development of our children, for community life and peer relationships.
We are ensuring that all our teachers and everyone else is committed to these principles. Daily table prayer is a matter of course before we eat together.
Agriculture
Growing our own food makes us more independent.
Over the years we have involved in agricultural activities. Integrating agriculture provides cost effective food and and teaches children practical life skills. Harvesting maize, potatoe, cabbage, beans, eggs and paultry directly supplements daily meals, guaranteeing consistent dietary quality and better nutrition.
We used to have two acres of land for rent up to 2022. After that, due to lack of funds we were not able to continue the project. Our vision is to buy land and grow food again in order to gradually become self-sufficent.
Follow-up
Standing on your own two feet.
We are a family where all kids embrace each other as brothers and sisters. Once our children grow up, they look for jobs and businesses and have their rights to start a family of their choice anywhere in the world. They can give back and support the orphanage at their own will.
Those who choose to stay in the orphanage remain in the family and take up responsibilities for the organisation.
